Financial disclosure: what it involves and how to prepare
Both sides must share their financial information. Here is how to make it painless.

Claire Hartwell

Financial disclosure is the process where each spouse shares details of their income, assets and debts. Every agreement and every court decision about money depends on it.
What you will need
Usually: recent pay slips and tax returns, bank and credit card statements, retirement and investment statements, mortgage and loan documents, and details of any business.
Be complete
Leaving something out, even by accident, can undo an agreement later. When in doubt, include it and let your lawyer advise.
Use a checklist
We give every client a personalised checklist on day one. Most people find it takes two or three evenings to gather everything.
This guide is general information about family law in Oregon and Washington. It is not legal advice for your situation, and reading it does not make us your lawyers. Laws differ by state and change over time.
